No mo at parkhead

HE WAS at Ibrox on Saturday to see Rangers scrape a win over Inverness but Maurice Johnston won’t be going anywhere near Parkhead for next week’s second Old Firm clash of the season.

Johnston, who has returned to Scotland from Canada to see friends and family over Christmas, told The Sun: “I’m back until 6 January – but I’ve made a conscious decision to stay at home for the Old Firm game and just watch it on TV.”

The striker, who made himself unpopular with the Celtic fans after he turned down a chance to return to the club to sign for Rangers, added: “It was good to be back at Ibrox. I caught up with Ally McCoist, Kenny McDowall and Ian Durrant in the manager’s office.

“I did the half-time draw and got a great reception from the Rangers supporters. The fans were brilliant and I had a terrific day.”

While Johnston has decided to give Parkhead a wide berth next Wednesday, Emilio Izaguirre could be in the thick of the action. According to the Daily Record, he is set to be in contention for a return after being sidelined for almost five months due to injury. The paper claimed he was being pencilled in for a bounce game this week.
