Charlie Mulgrew favourite for PFA nod

BOOKMAKERS were last night in agreement as they installed Charlie Mulgrew as the odds-on favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award, following yesterday’s shortlist announcement.

But the odds for the Young Player of the Year award vary, with William Hill making Celtic’s James Forrest a short-priced favourite, and McBookie.com believing Johnny Russell of Dundee United is the front-runner.

Both firms think the biggest challenge to Mulgrew will come from Jon Daly. McBookie make the United striker 2-1 second-favourite, with William Hill 5-2.

Examining the four-man shortlist, which also includes Kilmarnock’s Dean Shiels and Steven Davis of Rangers, Paul Petrie of McBookie.com said: “All four players have had great seasons but, Mulgrew has been a revelation for Celtic this season, and would be a worthy winner.”

Neil Lennon is Hill’s 11-8 favourite to be PFA manager of the year, followed by Ross County’s Derek Adams at 7-4 and Kenny Shiels of Kilmarnock 11-2.
