Celtic fans’ anger at Nir Biton’s Israel comments

CELTIC midfielder Nir Biton has angered a section of the Celtic support after he posted comments on his Instagram account appearing to supporting Israel’s Gaza offensive.

The post, reported in the Daily Record, featured a prayer which contained the line: “May God cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them.”

It has since been taken down, but not before screengrabs were circulated on Twitter. It caused an angry reaction from many Celtic supporters, who targeted the player with abuse and criticism.

One fan, James Tuohy, tweeted: “Nir Biton posts days after 4 young boys are blown up in Palestine by Israeli rockets. An insult to their deaths. Celtic should sack him.”

Another fan, Jordan Turner, said: “As far as I am concerned Nir Biton now no longer has a place at Glasgow Celtic.”

Other fans called for people to remember the player has a right to an opinion, with James Hunt saying: “I dont agree with Nir Biton, miles from it, but I respect his right to have an opinion on his own country.”
