Celtic have confirmed the signing of 16-year-old Okoflex on a three-year deal after the midfielder left Arsenal earlier in the summer.

The youth prospect, who can play out wide or through the middle, has targeted a first team starting berth by his next birthday, having taken encouragement from Raheem Sterling’s progression at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers.

The Dublin-born Okoflex told the Celtic website: “My personal target it to make my debut before I turn 17. I’m trying to aim high.

“I had a meeting with Brendan Rodgers and he was very convincing. He’s a great manager with all the success he’s had at previous clubs and at Celtic, and he was one of the big factors in coming here.

“The manager told me about Raheem Sterling, how he was a young teenager at Liverpool and then he brought him up in pre-season and, because he was doing well and better than the older wingers at the club, he played him in the league games. It shows he’ll play young players and that’s encouraging for me.”

Okoflex was Celtic’s last signing on transfer deadline day following the earlier arrivals of Youssouf Mulumbu on a free transfer and defender Filip Benkovic on loan from Leicester. Moussa Dembele, meanwhile, left the club late yesterday evening after Lyon’s £19.7m bid for the striker was accepted.
