The 31-year-old has struggled for fitness since being released by Sunderland in 2012, and has spent the last two years in rehabilitation with physiotherapists. He also spent time training with former club Hearts and Rangers earlier this year.

Gordon is understood to be close to agreeing a deal and completing a medical.

Celtic will likely ask Gordon to provide cover for Celtic’s Fraser Forster and Lukasz Zaluska, the former of whom has frequently been linked with a move away from Parkhead.

Gordon, who has made 40 appearances for Scotland, became Britain’s most expensive goalkeeper when he made a £9 million move from Hearts to Sunderland in 2007. Several injuries, including two broken arms, made his spell in Wearside a frustrating one, and he was allowed to leave by Sunderland while he was recovering from a knee injury.
