Neil Lennon watched the 25-year-old hitman in the Terriers’ 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers last night, just days after watching him score against Burnley.

But the Daily Express are reporting that the Hoops would need to cough up in execess of £6 million for the Championship side to even consider selling the former Everton striker, who has netted 24 goals in 48 games for Huddersfield in the last two years.

Ironically, should Celtic offer big money for Vaughan, they could end up breaking their record transfer fee of £6.5 million - paid to Leicester for Lennon in 2000.

The Parkhead side have fought to reduce their wage bill in recent years, and have been boosted by the big money sales of Gary Hooper to Norwich City and Victor Wanyama to Southampton, with Lennon expressing his desire earlier this week to ‘buy British’ in his attempts to rebuild at Celtic, after he shelled out over £5 million for Teemu Pukki, Amido Balde and Mo Bangura, who are as yet to show any signs of filling the void left by Hooper’s departure.

Celtic opened talks with Partick Thistle full-back Aaron Taylor-Sinclair over a pre-contract agreement, while Lennon could return with a fourth bid for Peterborough forward Lee Tomlin.

The Posh knocked back three bids from Celtic during the summer, criticising the Scottish champions for unsettling their player on the day of a match by waiting until the final day of the transfer window.

However, Celtic reportedly face competition from Rangers for Dundee United stopper Gavin Gunning.
