The Argentina international also cited his side’s defeat to the size of Celtic’s players after Barcelona suffered a shock defeat at Parkhead.

Speaking after the game, Messi said: “They were lucky. It’s a shame but we can do nothing about it now. They went twice up the pitch and got two goals. We didn’t score enough, but we did everything right apart from put the ball in the net.

“The problem was that they are physically larger and they scored the first goal because of that and the second goal killed us.

“But we have to be calm and remind ourselves that we still have two more matches in the Champions League to qualify and we remain top of the group.”

Celtic, who won 2-1 on the night thanks to goals from midfielder Victor Wanyama and 19-year-old substitute Tony Watt, are second in Group G, two points behind table-topping Barcelona.
