Celtic to set up a match-day fan zone

Celtic fans’ match-day experience could be boosted by a fan zone at Celtic Park next season, with the possibility of selling alcohol to up to 3,000 supporters.

The idea is based on Manchester City’s “BT City Square” fan zone in which punters are treated to music, entertainment and special guests. A Celtic delegation will attend City’s match against Aston Villa tonight to observe how the fan zone works outside the Etihad Stadium and the event will be hosted by former Scottish model Natalie Pike.

A source said: “There’s a realisation that we need to do more for fans around the stadium to boost the match-day experience.”

Celtic bosses, who opened the new Celtic Way avenue for its fans last Saturday, plan to transform the old coach park behind the Jock Stein Stand so that food can be served until 15 minutes before kick-off and it will reopen before matches end. The fan zone will also enable supporters to wait for traffic congestion to ease.
