Jay, 11, took to the pitch at half time during Celtic’s 2-0 win against Hamilton at New Douglas Park after the two clubs worked together to give the young fan a VIP experience.

And the Hoops superfan, who has Down’s Syndrome, gave Celtic an inspiring team talk before the match started, and at half-time scored a goal in front of the Celtic fans to rapturous applause and cheering from all 6007 fans present.

The supporters also chanted Jay’s name, with father Martin expressing his delight and gratitude, saying after: “Today was something else and to have a whole stadium including the Hamilton fans chanting your son’s name will live with me forever.

“When Jay was born, we hoped and prayed that people would treat him with respect.

“Because of his love of the greatest club in the world, his life has become a dream come true. We thought 2014 was just amazing but today was something else.”

Hamilton chiefs told Jay that his goal ‘stood’, and recorded the official scoreline as 3-0 to Celtic, thanks to goals from Adam Matthews, Jay Beatty and Liam Henderson.

It would be a world first if Jay won the competition, and he is included along with the likes of David Goodwillie, Mikael Lustig, Adam Rooney and Gary Mackay-Steven.

Jay became a worldwide hit at the end of last season, when video of him and Georgios Samaras on Celtic’s league-winning lap of honour went viral, racking up over 2 million hits on YouTube and being broadcast live on Sky Sports.
