The Israeli had looked set to leave Neil Lennon’s side in the summer having fallen down the midfield pecking order behind Stefan Johansen and Nir Biton in recent months.

In an interview with an Israeli newspaper earlier this month he had said that he had lost his desire to play football in Scotland. The Israeli midfielder has just over a year left on his contract and claims both Manchester United and Liverpool were close to making a move for him a few years ago when he was being touted for a £7 million move to England.

However the 25 year-old appears to have had a change of heart and is targeting another run with the Parkhead club in Europe.

He said: “Four years is a long time, but I am still very happy here at a big club like Celtic.

“To be here for four years at a massive club makes me very proud.

“There is a different side of Scottish football here. Scottish football is different.

“But I am so happy to be here and to be part of a successful side, winning the league, being in the Champions League and winning cups, so it feels like you are achieving something in your career.

“Scoring the winner against Ajax gave me a good feeling. I want to prove myself for the gaffer and make the supporters proud.”

Kayal said he is happy with life in Scotland and is settled in Glasgow.

“I have a great live outside football and, hopefully, it stays like that as I’m enjoying every day here at Celtic.

“The Scottish people are so friendly and always like to help you so I’m happy to be here.”
