Just because the window has closed it doesn’t mean our clubs have to stop signing players until January.
While the pickings are typically a little slim, a few gems have been unearthed by Scottish clubs outwith the window as they shop in the free agent market. Recent notable examples include Youssouf Mulumbu at Kilmarnock and Arnaud Djoum to Hearts.
In these unprecedented times, the free-agent pool is deeper than ever with clubs having to cut their cloth due to the financial uncertainty, which has left several players twisting in the wind.
Here 12 players who’ve played in the Scottish top flight before but find themselves without a club in October:
1. Ross Wallace
The ex-Celtic youngster made a handful of appearances for St Mirren at the end of the last season before the league shutdown.

2. Anthony Stokes
The striker is a free agent once again after asking to have his contract at Livingston terminated over concerns regarding the Tony Macaroni pitch.

3. Nigel Hasselbaink
The former Hamilton, St Mirren and St Johnstone attacker is a free agent after leaving Hapoel Beer-Sheva, where he had a strong two-year spell as a squad player.
