While it is thought David Moyes is Celtic’s preferred candidate, the Parkhead club are looking to keep their options open if the former Manchester United boss decides he doesn’t want the role.

Rodgers appeared to be heading back to former club Swansea, though that deal looks dead in the water with the Welsh club set to offer a contract extension to Francesco Guidolin. The Italian has impressed since taking over from Gary Monk.

When asked about the possibility of succeeding Ronny Deila, Rodgers refused to rule it out, calling Celtic a “great club”. The Northern Irishman grew up supporting the Hoops.

Rodgers has some concerns over the quality of football in Scotland and how much money he’d receive in the transfer market to rebuild the Scottish champions for an assault on the Champions League group stages.

Celtic will try to assuage those fears when they met the former Liverpool manager.
