Celtic draw Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Champions League play-off

Israeli champions Hapoel Be'er Sheva stand between Celtic and a return to the Champions League group stage after the two sides were drawn against each other in the play-off round.

The Israeli team defeated Olympiakos to reach this stage of the competition. They have never competed before in the Champions League (or European Cup before it).

Be’er Sheva were one of five possible draws Celtic could have had, the others being Copenhagen, Dinamo Zagreb, Dundalk and Ludogorets Razgrad. From a coefficient stand point they are one of the kinder draws Celtic could have received, even if they are in for a 5,000-mile round trip to Beersheba.

Celtic will play at home first on Wednesday 17 August, with the return leg in Israel taking place the following Tuesday.
