Camelon must cross to Fife after kick off line saves Kelty

The Camelon committee had worked tirelessly on Saturday morning to get the go ahead for this third round Junior Cup game to be played and deserve huge credit for doing so.

However the result didn’t go their way and the two sides have to go through the same process again next week.

Conditions for the players were almost Baltic but the football being played was hot and frantic. Both keepers were called into action quickly with the strikers on fire from the kick off. Play flashed from end to end with first Camelon keeper Myles Hogarth saving well before Alan Fleming showed his international class with a couple of stunning stops. Camelon’s Blair Batchelor was turning on the style forcing Fleming into some heroics to keep his goal intact.

The second half was action from end to end with both keepers outstanding. People say you have to be mad to be a goalkeeper and both the players certainly lived up to the call, diving around in the cold freezing mud.

Camelon’s Craig Young, who had been booked for simulation in the first half almost made the breakthrough when he chested a great pass from Batchelor onto his right foot but the shot scraped the outside of the post. Camelon then had a penalty awarded to them after Batchelor had been sent crashing in the box. But Fleming saved the effort from Steven Knox with his feet.

Tempers became frayed as the final whistle approached with both sides looking to keep their goal intact. Kelty rode their luck in the closing minutes as Camelon forced play on. Then with the last kick of the game, Kelty’s Steph Winiarski cleared the ball off the goal line with the keeper finally beaten.

So they have it all to do again next week, weather permitting.
