Caley halve ticket prices to apologise for call-off

Inverness have halved ticket prices for their rearranged Clydesdale Bank Premier League game against St Johnstone as they apologised for the late postponement.

However, chairman Kenny Cameron has defended their decision to pass the pitch fit on Monday morning before referee Willie Collum declared it unplayable after an 11.30am inspection.

St Johnstone were well on the way to Inverness ahead of the 2pm kick-off and manager Steve Lomas was “bamboozled” over the change in circumstances.

Writing on his club’s official website, Cameron said: “The ground staff and numerous volunteers worked tirelessly from before 8am to remove some areas of standing water.

“This exercise was completed by 9.30am, at which point, had there been no further inclement weather, there was a good chance that the game could have been played.

“Unfortunately, prior to the referee arriving at 11.15, there were prolonged spells of sleet/snow which covered the pitch, turning to slush, rendering it unplayable and left the referee with no alternative but to call the game off.

“We fully appreciate that many fans both home and away had made the effort to travel for the game and we are extremely sorry that we were finally beaten in our endeavours to get the game played.”

Cameron explained that there had been 400mm of rain in two weeks, with the December average between 60-70mm.

He added: “As a goodwill gesture for the fans (home and away) that travelled, the standard ticket prices for the rescheduled match will be halved.

“Naturally anybody who is unable to attend the rescheduled fixture can get a full refund from the ticket office.”

St Johnstone hope to tie up a loan extension for Cillian Sheridan when the SFA offices reopen for business today. The ex-Celtic striker spent the first half of the season on loan from CSKA Sofia and is keen to remain at McDiarmid Park for the rest of the campaign.
