Burgh boss fears cards

MUSSELBURGH manager David McGlynn is urging his players to cut out the “silly suspensions” that are causing the team problems.

Banned duo Steven Noble and Brian Murray are both ineligible for tomorrow’s Super League clash with new leaders Linlithgow at Olivebank (2.15pm kick-off).

“We’ve got a small squad and silly suspensions are leaving us short of numbers,” said McGlynn, who was also hit by a couple of unexpected late call-offs before last Saturday’s 4-0 Fife & Lothians Cup defeat at Hill of Beath. “I had to play one of our goalkeepers, Ally Adams, up front alongside Kris Renton while Rambo [assistant manager Iain Ramage] was on the bench,” he added.

Chris King was sent off in the defeat in Fife but he’s eligible for tomorrow as Burgh bid to secure a win that would help lift them a bit further away from the relegation trapdoor.

“We need to try and make sure we are safe as soon as we can,” said McGlynn, who is looking for his side to reproduce the performance that earned a 2-0 win over another title-chasing side, Camelon, a fortnight ago.

“That was quite a comfortable victory for us. At the moment, it’s ourselves Carnoustie, Lochee and St Andrews fighting to avoid that one relegation spot but Kelty could get dragged into it as well.”

Linlithgow welcome back Tommy Coyne and Andy Shirra after suspension, though Mark Bradley might be tempted to stick with the same side that beat Bathgate 5-3 last weekend. With a Junior Cup quarter-final place already in the bag.

Bonnyrigg return to league action tomorrow at Camelon and it’s another big game for Max Christie’s men, who are now fifth in the table but have games in hand on all the teams above them and are only four points behind Linlithgow.
