Broxburn claim Super League scalp to reach final

Another terrific display of football saw Broxburn reach the final of the Junior’s Fife and Lothian’s Cup, where they will meet Super League side Linlithgow at Bo’ness on Saturday.

Manager Steve Pittman saw his side go in at the break level at 2-2 against Kelty Hearts but an inspired substitution saw replacement Sean Martin getting the all-important goal.

A delighted Pittman said afterwards: “It’s a great end to what has been a terrific season. To get promotion, then come here and beat a Super League side on their own turf was very pleasing. The first-half was poor defensively from both sides, but I thought we had the better of the second-half and deserved our win.”

Broxburn struck first through Mark Cowan but Kelty equalised only a minute later with a Conrad Courts strike. Broxburn took the lead again with a David Morrison effort only for Kelty to level once more through Courts with his second.

The second-half belonged to Broxburn and the introduction of Martin changed the game. Midway through half he sent in a low shot which the keeper should have saved but instead allowed the ball to slip under his body into the net.

Elsewhere, the East of Scotland Cup final will be contested between Kinnoull and St Andrews Utd after Kinnoull beat Sauchie 4-1 on penalties after a goalless affair and St Andrews Utd overcame Dundonald Bluebell 4-1.

In the South Division, Haddington lost 3-1 at home to Falkirk, Blackburn beat Livingston 1-0 and the West Calder v Stoneyburn game was postponed to tonight.
