Brendan Rodgers has no intention of leaving '˜dream job'

New Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed any possibility of him exiting Parkhead before his first game to replace Roy Hodgson as England manager.

Rodgers’ name appeared on a list of likely candidates to take up the reins of the English national team following Hodgson’s exit in the aftermatch of Monday’s defeat to Iceland.

But while Rodgers remains flattered that his reputation sees him linked with such a high profile position, he insists he has no intention of going anywhere.

“If people think I can do jobs at a high level, then that’s fine, said Rodgers. “But I’m busy here, worrying about what I have to do here.

“I’ve just landed my dream job. The team I’ve supported all my life. I haven’t even walked out for my first game.”

Despite a thoroughly disappointing Euro 2016 campaign, Rodgers still believes there’s enough quality in the England camp for the next manager - whoever that may be - to be a success.

He added: “There is a great group of players there. They’ve got some wonderful talents in that England squad. But it has been difficult for them at this tournament - and it has been like that for a few tournaments.

“So it’s unfortunate how it ended for Roy because he’s a good man, a very good coach.

“They now obviously have to appoint someone and look at creating an identity, a way the team can play.”
