City manager Jim Weir will have been pleased with his new look squad for their application against their SPL opponents with two goal striker David McKenna proving to be the home hero with a late winner against Terry Butcher’s side.

The visitors were missing defender David Raven, who was stretchered off in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Coventry City after suffering a head knock, from an otherwise strong looking line up and just when it looked like the opening 45 minutes would end goalless Caley’s Graeme Shinnie popped up to break the deadlock with a fine goal.

The 20-year-old defender found himself deep in the left hand side of the Brechin box and sent home a fierce 12-yard shot that crashed high into the net with Michael Andrews having no chance of saving it.

City levelled eight minutes into the second half when McKenna was brought crashing down as he looked set to convert a great chance and the striker dusted himself down before converting the penalty. Brechin secured their win when McKenna swivelled away from his marker before shooting home from ten yards out.
