Bonnyrigg march on after late comeback

Ashfield 2Bonnyrigg Rose 3

Bonnyrigg demoralised the home side with a late, late show to go through to the last eight of the Scottish Junior Cup.

In a cup tie featuring two red cads and five yellows, Ashfield went ahead when Chris Gray sent a clearance straight to Gary McCann who beat keeper Mark Weir from almost halfway. However after a brilliant run from Sean Grady, Sean Paliczka crossed for Alex King to head the equaliser. In the second half, Ashfield’s Mark Thomson rose unchallenged to head home with only eight minutes left. Chris Gray then saw red and it looked all over for Bonnyrigg. However, star man Alex King drove home the unlikely equaliser in the 91st minute before Sean Paliczka scored with a beautiful overhead kick two minutes later to take Rose to an unlikely victory and a quarter-final place.
