Billy Davies: I was offered Rangers job before Mark Warburton

The former Rangers player, who after retiring would go on to manage Motherwell, Preston, Derby County and Nottingham Forest, told Clyde Radio that he was approached by a third party and offered the role.
He decided to turn it down, feeling there was “too much politics, too little football” going on at Ibrox.

Hide AdIn an interview with Hugh Keevins, he said: “When I looked at the Rangers situation there were many different factions involved in trying to take over. There was all this speculation about all these different names that were involved. In my opinion, too much politics, too little football.
“This was an unstable club at that time, and there’s absolutely no doubt, under the present circumstances, that the current chairman and board have to micromanage. I didn’t think that it was time for me to step into that type of environment.
“Good luck to anybody else that does, good luck to anybody else that wanted to take on that. That’s their decision.
“I was approached by a third party. In this business you get approached by third parties, third party press, third party agent, third party connection.
“Was Davies approached by a third party or third parties in relation to the Rangers situation? Yes, I was. Did Davies apply for the job or did Davies’ advisors have any conversation in relation to the job? No, they didn’t.”
Davies has been out of management since the end of his second spell in charge of Nottingham Forest in 2014.
His time at the club was marred by controversy. This included giving a post game press conference before Forest’s final game of the season had even been played.
