Banks ready to play if called on

ST JOHNSTONE goalkeeping coach Steve Banks admits he has developed something of a “split personality” after taking over from injured Alan Mannus in the last three matches.

Mannus was initially ruled out for six weeks with a shoulder injury a month ago, with Banks, 41, dusting off his gloves again.

Banks knows Mannus could return for today’s clash against Hibernian at McDiarmid Park after making a quicker-than-expected recovery, but he would be perfectly happy to carry on if the Saints number one is not yet fully fit.

He said: “I do have to have a bit of a split personality, my coaching side wants Alan to get fit as quickly as possible and play as well as he did previously.

“But, as a player, every time I play I want to go out and play to the best of my ability, and that’s what I will try to do.”
