Ayr 1-3 Partick Thistle: Jags sweep aside Honest Men

AYR plunged deeper into relegation trouble as Thistle deservedly took the spoils. Home goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert had made a string of fine saves early on, but there was nothing he could do in 26 minutes when the rampaging Chris Erskine played a one-two with Paul Cairney before drilling low into the net.

rskine was proving a handful for the United defence and was instrumental in helping Thistle double their lead.

He left two defenders for dead before slipping the ball beyond Cuthbert.

John Robertson, at full stretch, managed to clear off the line but it rebounded for Paul Cairney who presented Kris Doolan with a tap-in.

United bucked-up a bit on the restart and Michael McGowan forced a smart save from Scott Fox with a near-post free-kick.

Ayr threw themselves a lifeline on 79 minutes when Andy Geggan’s long throw was flicked on by Robertson for substitute Adam Dodd to swivel and fire home. However, the home side ended with ten men when Dodd was red-carded for aiming a kick at Stephen O’Donnell.

Their misery was complete when Jags substitute Mark McGuigan scored in stoppage time.
