Aston Villa reject Kris Boyd link

ASTON VILLA manager Martin O'Neill said today that he has no interest in signing Rangers striker Kris Boyd.

A number of media reports this morning stated that the Rangers forward had held talks with the Midlands club and had attended Villa's 6 - 4 win over Blackburn in the Carling Cup.

O'Neill said that he had no interest in signing Boyd.

"I don't know if players are at football games but the other part I can definitely comment on, he said.

"I was quite surprised to see the story that he is signing for us.

"Of course, I know the player very well indeed. He was in Scotland when I was in charge of Celtic – but there isn't any truth in it."

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish however has confirmed his interest Rangers' top scorer.

He stated this morning that Birmingham "could do some business" in relation to the signing of Boyd.

Wigan are also understood to have expressed an interest in Boyd while Championship sides Newcastle United and Middlesbrough are monitoring the situation.
