Ash Taylor injury blow to Aberdeen’s title hopes

The 24-year-old, who signed a contract extension last week, picked up the injury in Saturday’s 3-3 home draw against Dundee.

Derek McInnes’ side are two points ahead of Celtic at the top of the table but have played two games more.

A statement on the Dons’ website read: “Defender Ash Taylor will require surgery following a scan on the knee injury he suffered during the weekend 3-3 Pittodrie draw against Dundee.

“The former Tranmere player will have an operation after the scan revealed cartilage damage.

“While the 24-year-old, who last week signed a contract extension with the Dons, is expected to be out for some weeks, an exact timescale will not be determined until the surgery has been completed.”

Meanwhile, the Dons have refused to be drawn on rumours linking them with Rotherham United defender Richard Wood.

Wood, 29, spent seven years with Sheffield Wednesday, making 174 league appearances and scoring seven goals, before moving to Coventry City in 2010 after a short loan spell.

In 3 years at Coventry he scored seven times in 112 league appearances, before a brief spell with Charlton Athletic.

He signed for Rotherham just before the start of the 2014/15 season but has struggled to feature in The Millers’ starting line-up.
