Arthur Numan: Talk of Rangers title-stripping is 'nonsense'

Former Rangers full-back Arthur Numan says calls to strip the Ibrox club of titles won during the EBT era are 'nonsense'.

The Dutchman insists he remains “proud” of what he achieved in his five years at Ibrox despite demands for the SPFL to review a 2013 decision that Rangers didn’t gain an “unfair competitive advantage” from their use of Employee Benefit Trusts.

Last Wednesday saw the defining verdict in the case against oldco Rangers after the Supreme Court rejected an appeal by liquidators BDO and found in favour of HMRC.

Since the decision there has been increased calls for Rangers to stripped of titles won between 2001 and 2010, when the scheme was in use.

Numan, who helped Rangers win the title in 2003 along with two other triumphs in 1999 and 2000, says the club’s trophies were won fairly.

He said: “These discussions have been going on for such a long time but I can’t see it happening.

“I have heard about the latest discussions and it’s just a lot of nonsense. Why should it happen? Why should they talk about taking our titles away?

“It’s a discussion for people who need to find something to talk about and I don’t even think about it. I still have my medals and I’m proud of them.”
