Signeul, pictured below, who leaves her post at the end of this tournament, acknowledged that it was a demanding debut for the Scots in their first ever match at a finals tournament, but was hopeful that they can still
qualify from Group D.

“It was a tough debut for us,” she said following the match in Utrecht. “We played against a very, very good side in England. I would say they will be a contender for this tournament.

“We are obviously disappointed to lose so many goals but we will work on this and our resilience.

“It’s not over for us. In three days’ time we are playing Portugal and that’s the main focus for us now.

“Unfortunately I think we have lost Jane Ross (who has gone to hospital with a shoulder injury) but we will have to wait to see.

“It is difficult when you lose such an early goal. We just need to pick ourselves up from this and learn from it.

“We will rise again – that’s what Scotland stands for.”
