Andrew Driver signs for Aberdeen until summer

The 27-year-old spent the past two seasons with Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo after leaving Tynecastle in 2013.

However, he has now returned to Scottish football after impressing Dons manager Derek McInnes while training with the Pittodrie club over the past few weeks.

“I’m delighted to get Andy on board,” said McInnes. “Hopefully, he will make the most of this opportunity we’ve given him.

“During his time with us I believe there has been enough to suggest that he can be a good addition to our squad.”

Driver, who has represented both Scotland under-16s and England under-21s, spent nearly seven years as a Hearts first-team player and made almost 150 appearances. The pinnacle of the Oldham-born player’s time at Tynecastle came towards the end when he played in the 5-1 Scottish Cup final over Hibs in 2012.

Houston initially signed Driver on loan and then agreed a permanent deal for the player in January 2014 but the Texas club opted not to extend his contract at the end of last year.

Following an unsuccessful spell at DC United he returned to Scotland earlier this year and joins an Aberdeen side six points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race with 11 games to play.

Driver could make his debut against Motherwell in the Premiership tomorrow night.
