Airdrie Utd 1-2 Dunfermline: Pars leave it late to grab three points

A BRAVE header from John Boyle looked set to give Airdrie their third First Division win in a row until Andy Dowie and Stephen Husband struck in the last ten minutes to grab a win for Dunfermline.

The hosts should have taken the lead on the 15 minute mark when Alan Cook released Jamie Bain on the right and his cross reached Boyle six yards out, however he turned the ball over.

Midway through the first half Stevie O’Reilly correctly waved aside Pars appeals for a spot kick and it was to be a double disappointment as the Diamonds took the lead shortly afterwards.

Cook whipped over a free kick and Nathan Blockley headed back across goal. Boyle headed home before clattering into the post and being substituted.

The second half started with the Pars putting on the pressure. Andy Geggan tested Kenny Arthur with a low drive before Andy Barrowman rattled the bar after great build-up play.

The equaliser came ten minutes from time when a Joe Cardle corner fell to defender Dowie and he lashed the ball home. Substitutes Alex Whittle and Ryan Wallace combined for Husband to head home the winner.
