Aberdeen confirm signing of former captain Russell Anderson

Aberdeen have confirmed Russell Anderson has completed his return to Pittodrie after a spell of almost five years away.

Dons boss Craig Brown swooped to sign the club’s former skipper even though the 33-year-old defender is carrying an injury at the moment.

Anderson - who was a free agent after parting company with Derby last month - has been handed the captain’s armband again upon his return to the Granite City.

He has signed on a short-term deal for now.

Brown told his club’s official website: “Russell has signed initially until the end of next season and, even although he is some weeks away from a return to full fitness, simply having him around the club again is a tremendous boost to everyone.

“Our medical team and the player are confident that he will make a full recovery.

“Russell is Aberdeen through and through and his influence both on and off the park will be a massive confidence boost for all of us here.”
