Celtic are unwilling to sell the 22-year-old unless they can seek a replacement on the final day of the summer transfer window.
This appears to have angered Dembele, who sent out a couple of cryptic tweets.
The first, a meme, read: “A man, without his word, is nothing. A real man keeps his word.”
He then followed that up by writing: “Don’t get it wrong Bhoys and Ghirls nothing to do with people who really care about the club @CelticFC too much respect for you and the crest #CarefulWhoYouCallTheLeaderOfYours” With this he posted another meme, this one read: “A lie has many variations, the truth none.”
Any doubt that the tweets were aimed at either Brendan Rodgers or the Celtic hierarchy, or both, appear to have been washed away by a series of other posts ‘liked’ by the Frenchman.
Those are as follows...
@chris_sutton73: “Moussa Dembele clearly calling out Brendan Rodgers... “A man without his word is nothing. A real man keeps his word”....”
@YerHavingAlaugh: “Football is nothing without fans.”
@19jhodgkiss: “He loves the club and the fans but he has been lied to by either the board or Rodgers or both.”
@KenyOshea67: “Our whole transfer policy centres around buying players young, giving them a platform to perform and then selling them to a better league. This is how we convince them to sign, seems like boyata and @MDembele_10 have been let down in that regard.”
@KpMcallister: “I tell you what if @MDembele_10 goes I think he’ll go with the fans blessing.
“He’s been brilliant and I think what’s happening now with the broken promises to boyata and now Moussa could make young players second guess coming here.”
@KenyOshea67: “9 million for boyata in the last year of his contract doesn’t suit both parties?
“20 for dembele who we all expected to leave this summer doesn’t suit us no?
“That’s 2 players saying we go back on our word, what will the next guy we try to bring in think?”
@sheephead23: “If Celtic have agreed a strategy with Moussa then surely we have to be true to our word. Players won’t come otherwise. Don’t want to see him go,But he has earned his move #celtic @MDembele_10.”
@carryonupthetay: “@MDembele_10 if a deal was agreed between men even a verbal agreement then it should be honoured by those men.”
@GFFN: “Breaking | Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers told Moussa Dembélé in the January window that Brighton was a better club than Celtic & tried to convince the Frenchman to join then bottom of the table West Brom, sources tell Get French Football News. More follows.”
