Football news in brief: Elmohamady seals Sunderland switch

Sunderland have completed the signing of Egypt international Ahmed Elmohamady on a permanent three-year deal. The winger, who can also play at right-back, spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light from ENPPI in a deal which included an option for Sunderland to buy him outright. That clause has now been exercised and the 23-year-old has joined on a pre-arranged undisclosed fee.

Pratley confirms Swansea departure

Midfielder Darren Pratley has confirmed he will leave Swansea this summer after five years at the club. The 26-year-old Londoner has refused to sign a new deal and revealed he is eager for a new challenge after playing a key role in the Swans' promotion to the Premier League, including a stunning strike in the Championship play-off semi-final second leg win over Nottingham Forest.

Robson cool on swift management return

Former Manchester United and England captain Bryan Robson has ruled out a swift return to management after quitting as Thailand coach for health and family reasons. Robson, 54, who had surgery for throat cancer in March, said: "The only thing I have planned is to go back and I'm speaking to Man United about going full-time as an ambassador."

Palermo snub Spurs offer for Hernandez

Palermo have rejected an offer from Tottenham to sign Uruguay international Abel Hernandez, according to the player's agent. Reports in Italy claimed the Premier League side had made a 8.9 million bid for the 20-year-old forward. Hernandez's agent Vincenzo D'Ippolito said: "It's true. But for the time being I know (Palermo president Maurizio) Zamparini has turned down the offer."

Richardson in charge for Dublin

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has confirmed that former Cork City manager Damien Richardson has been chosen to select and manage an Airtricity League XI to play against both Manchester City and Celtic at the inaugural Dublin Super Cup on 30 and 31 July. Richardson took charge of the Airtricity XI last season when they lost to a strong Manchester United team. The 63-year-old will name his squad next week.
