Football news in brief: Brown and Knox drop Well legal fight

Craig Brown and Archie Knox have withdrawn their employment tribunal claim against former club Motherwell.

Veteran manager Brown and his assistant Knox, both now at Aberdeen, launched legal action against the Fir Park club in May. They reportedly believed they were each owed 12,500 for helping Motherwell reach the Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-finals and the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

In a statement, Motherwell chief executive Leeann Dempster said: "Having strongly defended our club's interests over two separate tribunal hearings, we welcome the news that the claims have been withdrawn and a line can now be drawn under that short chapter. Motherwell's whole focus as a club is on building a long-term sustainable future and successful team bringing enjoyment and benefits to our fans and our community."

Falkirk managing director George Craig has become a victim of the club's cost-cutting measures after being axed by the Bairns. Craig is currently serving a three-month notice period and will officially sever his ties with the First Division outfit on 31 August.

Falkirk supporter Craig, who has been involved at boardroom level for seven years, was informed that the position of managing director was being made redundant.

A second successive season in the First Division allied to losses of nearly 1 million for the financial year ending May 2010 has led to the club looking at ways of trimming costs.

Manager Steven Pressley freed 18 players at the end of the season and experienced defender Darren Dods is his only summer signing as yet.

Hartley adds One to new Alloa recruits

Alloa Athletic manager Paul Hartley has added another face to his squad by signing giant French striker Armand One.

One, who started his career at Nantes and has had spells at Partick Thistle, Cowdenbeath, Raith Rovers and Livingston, left Stranraer at the end of last season. It was rumoured that the 28-year-old had signed for an Austrian Second Division side but yesterday he signed on at Recreation Park.

Hartley said: "Armand told our secretary Ewan Cameron that no international clearance would be required as he definitely had never signed for LASK Linz. Armand scored a lot of goals in the Third Division last season and we are looking for the same from him this year."

One joins fellow new recruits, goalkeeper Scott Bain who came in from Aberdeen, former Celtic and East Stirling striker Kevin Cawley and the McCord brothers Ryan and Ross who have joined from Dundee United. "There are more signings to come," added Hartley.
