Florence sets mark with second gold

CANOEING: Great Britain’s David Florence became the first man to win two gold medals across two classes at a Canoe World Cup yesterday as he paired with Richard Hounslow to win the C2.

Florence, who took gold in the individual C1 on Saturday at the Slalom World Cup in Cardiff, was first out with Hounslow in yesterday’s race, and a fast, clean run set a high bar that no one could match.

It was the first C2 gold of their career, and wrapped up a perfect weekend for 29-year-old Florence.

“It feels amazing,” the Scot said. “To come away with one medal in canoe slalom, which is such an on-the-day sport with so many guys fighting for the top, is amazing, but to win two is incredible. What a weekend!”
