Falkirk winger Ryan Flynn waits on Hearts offer

Falkirk winger Ryan Flynn would be keen on the prospect of a move to Hearts if the Tynecastle club follow up initial enquiries with a formal offer, it emerged today.

The 22-year-old from Loanhead features prominently on a Hearts wanted list which also includes Jamie Hamill, Morgaro Gomis, Prince Buaben, Zander Diamond, John Sutton and Mehdi Taouil.

Any ventures into the transfer market are unlikely to be imminent, however, as Jim Jefferies, who has been busy laying the foundations for a possible summer signing spree, is yet to meet with owner Vladimir Romanov to have his plans ratified. The manager is expected to travel to Lithuania next week to discuss exactly where he stands in terms of bringing players in and moving others on.

Flynn, a former Liverpool youngster who has emerged as Falkirk's most prized asset over the past two seasons, still has a year left on his contract at Westfield. But the cash-strapped Bairns are unlikely to be difficult to deal with given their need to reduce a wage bill which remains over budget despite the recent departure of 18 players. In addition to Hearts, Dundee United, St Johnstone, Watford and a couple of other unnamed English sides are also understood to be monitoring Flynn's situation.

"It's certainly a distinct possibility that Ryan will be leaving Falkirk," said David Threlfall, Flynn's Liverpool-based advisor. "Falkirk have had three or four enquiries from different clubs over the last few weeks and there's a good chance something will develop. While he remains very happy to be a Falkirk player at the moment, he's extremely flattered to be linked with a club of Hearts' stature and the opportunity of progressing his career there would be something that would certainly appeal to him."

Threlfall believes his client would prove a shrewd acquisition for any side intent on bringing on young talent. "At Liverpool, he won youth cups and reserve league titles and played loads of games. He had a really good education at Liverpool and it's served him well at Falkirk, where he's had two good seasons. At the moment you'd probably still call him a bright prospect. But he's certainly got both the ability and, most importantly, the mentality to go on and be an exceptional talent. I expect him to flourish over the next few years, especially if he gets back into the SPL."
