F1: Di Resta ends on high with Rookie of the Year award

Bathgate’s Paul di Resta rounded off his first year as a Formula One racer when he received the Autosport.com Rookie of the Year at the Autosport Awards in London.

The 25-year-old Scot, who is expected to be confirmed as a Sahara Force India driver for 2012 in the next few days alongside German Nico Hulkenberg, was delighted.

“It’s been a tough year, but a hugely rewarding one, and to round the year off with this award, which was voted for by the fans, means a huge amount to me,” said Di Resta. “The year has gone better than I would ever have expected. Scoring points in my first two grands prix was a terrific way to start. Then we really delivered the goods after the mid-season break, with a run of top ten finishes and championship points.”

Di Resta, pictured left, scored 27 points and helped his Sahara Force India team to sixth place in the constructors’ championship, their highest-ever finish.

“Helping the team to their best finish was very satisfying for me,” Di Resta continued, “and we have a solid foundation from which to build next in 2012.

“The year’s now finally slowing down and I can take a few weeks to rest, recharge the batteries and spend some precious time with my family and friends.

“Believe me, I’m certainly looking forward to the break.”
