Edinburgh Wolves kick off season with away match in Glasgow

The Edinburgh Wolves are set to kick off their 2008 British American Football League season this weekend with a week one clash at Glasgow Tigers on Sunday.

The Wolves' campaign comes just a month after the Northern Division 2 side successfully completed their first residential training camp, and general manager Doug Adamson says the team are ready for the new season.

"Our division is extremely tight. It's very competitive, and if anything the teams have gotten stronger this year so there are some tough games ahead.

"But we're focused and we have a lot of talent in our ranks who are ready for the challenge."

Travelling to Glasgow on Sunday, the Wolves face a team they went 2-1 against last year.

"We've done well against Glasgow in the past and had some good results, so we know that can bring home a win if we stay focused," Adamson said.

"But they are an improving side, who in many ways are like ourselves with a wealth of young players. They have the potential to make things difficult for us. But our squad has worked hard in the off-season and are looking forward to the game."

With the Wolves' five home games at Edinburgh's Meadowbank again this year, the team are proud to be the only Scottish side who play at a stadium.

"It's great for fans of American football that we are lucky enough to play there. It makes it so much better for the spectators," Adamson said.

The Wolves' first match takes place in Glasgow this weekend but their first home game will be against Merseyside Nighthawks on Sunday, May 4 at noon.
