East of Scotland: Students thrash Thistle to lift Alex Jack Cup

Stirling University gave Lothian Thistle a footballing lesson at the Falkirk Stadium when they lifted the Alex Jack Cup with a resounding 8-0 victory.

Lothian's cause was not helped when Ean Grieve was given a straight red card in the 15th minute for a reckless challenge on Liam Corr.

Stirling were already a goal up through Jason Atkins. Michael Pentland then scored twice and Lothian goalkeeper Kevin Swain was injured in a goalmouth scramble. Seven minutes before the break Corr made it 4-0.

Swain did not appear for the second half with defender James Young taking over in goals. Craig Mason, Abraham Keller (2) and Creag Robertson all netted to complete the rout.

In the Central Taxis Premier Division, Edinburgh University maintained third position with a 2-1 victory at Tynecastle with goals from Peder Beck-Friis and Jack Beacher.

Civil Service Strollers and Edinburgh City shared the points in a 1-1 draw with Alan Wilson scoring for the Strollers and Andy Howat for City. Selkirk were twice ahead thanks to a double from Paul Hossack but Vale of Leithen equalised with strikes from Scoot Moffat and Jamie Lauder.
