Duo make winning start as Alliance tees off at Bathgate

TWO new members made winning starts as the Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance teed off its season at Bathgate.

Louis Gaughan made the most of home advantage to claim the scratch spoils while Dalmahoy’s James Silvestro took the handicap honours.

Gaughan, an 18-year-old who is now one of Stuart Callan’s assistants at the West Lothian club, carded a three-under-par 68.

It earned him a two-shot victory over a group of five players – pros Andrew Oldcorn and Graham Law and amateur trio Neil Henderson, Derek Fish and George Wither.

Silvestro, meanwhile, picked up the Ramsay Trophy with a net 66 playing off seven.

He also finished two shots clear of the chasing pack, with Gaughan in second spot closely followed by Fish and Wither.

The next outing is at West
Lothian on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh man Neil Fenwick was lying second heading into today’s third round of the European Tour
Q-School stage one event at The Roxburghe, close to Kelso.

He shot a second-round 67 for a three-under total at the halfway stage.

Mortonhall’s Greg Nicolson was also on course to advance to the next stage, lying in a tie for eighth on one-over.
