Duo dash for double act

Who says Scottish sprinting is finished? Firrhill High’s Tom Holligan (EAC) and Banchory’s Kathryn Christie (Aboyne Academy) have created a little bit of athletics history this season by simultaneously holding the Scottish Senior and Scottish Schools 100 metres titles.

Though the great Mike Hildrey (Victoria Park) achieved a double double in 1960, winning both 100m (9.8 seconds) and 220 yards (21.5sec) at both senior and schools meetings, there was no female equivalent.

Christie, to her credit, scored a double victory at both meetings this month, but Holligan, though doubtless capable of matching that feat, only contested the short sprint at Grangemouth last weekend.
