Dunblane Primary picks up Badmintonscotland honour

DUNBLANE is known as the home of the tennis Murray brothers, but now the local primary school has picked up Badmintonscotland’s school of the month sward for March.

The award, presented by Badmintonscotland’s coaching and development officer John Shearer, recognises the fantastic efforts of staff and four parent volunteers in providing lunch-time badminton to primary 4 and 5 pupils.

The response has been so high that sessions are now being delivered in blocks to allow all interested pupils the chance to participate.

Parents and staff recently attended a badminton training session on Badmintonscotland’s Primary Curriculum for Excellence Pack and have seen pupils take part in a Central Schools Competition for the first time.

Dawn Middleton, Coaching & Development Manager at Badmintonscotland said: “Dunblane Primary School epitomises a school focused on developing sporting opportunities. The area has,
of course, a first-class reputation for racket sports and we hope that badminton will flourish in Dunblane.”
