Drummond is confirmed as new skipper

GORDON Drummond has been officially confirmed as full-time Scotland cricket captain following the decision by Gavin Hamilton to step down.

Drummond will take formal charge for the first time in this week's two games against the touring India A side at Citylets Titwood tomorrow and Friday.

Chairman of selectors Iain Kennedy said: "We are very grateful to Gavin Hamilton for all his efforts as our captain over the last year. He took over at a difficult time and has been instrumental in the change process we are undertaking in the national squad. He agreed to take on the role whilst we identified a long-term successor.

"Gordon has done a great job whilst deputising for Gavin, and we are delighted he has accepted the invitation to become Scotland captain. He is a natural leader, has a good cricketing brain and has led from the front in his games as captain to date."

Scotland's preparations for tomorrow's match suffered a blow when Majid Haq pulled a calf muscle, and has been forced to withdraw from both games this week. A replacement will be announced today.
