Diary: Bobby Williamson contract hits a snag

BOBBY Williamson has been handed a lucrative four-year contract by Uganda... but they reportedly can't afford to pay the Scot. The former Kilmarnock and Hibs manager has worked wonders in the African nation and is on course to qualify for the African Nations Cup for the first time in decades.

But, in a surprising move, the Ugandan FA has made public Williamson's entire salary package. The only snag is that Williamson's bosses freely admit they can't afford to pay his 5,000-a-month salary and the bonus package that goes with it and want government or sponsor help. FA president Lawrence Mulindwa said: "Be aware that we have signed this contract, but we don't have the money. We could not let Williamson go because we have seen the positives that he has done. We have written to the government to come to our rescue."

Williamson's remarkable four-year package also includes a 850,000 bonus, 1.1 million for accommodation, 300,000 for air fares, 80,000 for security and 2.5 million for a car and a driver. Williamson said: "Hopefully by the time I leave, my mark will be visible."
