David Law to play in warm-up at Balgownie

DAVID Law, the double Scottish champion in 2009, has been invited to join the Great Britain & Ireland squad for a training match this week at Royal Aberdeen, venue for the Walker Cup in September.

The 20-year-old, who was left out of the squad following a disappointing 2010 campaign, will take part in the three-day match at Balgownie after being asked by GB&I captain Nigel Edwards along with Ireland's Dermot McElroy and Steven Brown of England.

Law, who won the Northern Amateur Open in South Africa earlier in the year, joins Ross Kellett and Kris Nicol among the 16 players taking part in the match. Michael Stewart has not been included, probably due to the fact he's suffering from a niggling wrist injury, while James Byrne is still in America.

The squad will be split into two teams, playing four foursomes matches tomorrow, four foursomes and eight singles on Thursday and eight singles on Friday. "It's the first time we've had a training match in advance of the Walker Cup," said Edwards. "Although many of them have played a great deal of competitive team golf, nothing matches the Walker Cup in terms of occasion and atmosphere, so it is important that we prepare ourselves for that."
