Cycling: Hoy increases his lead over track rivals in Rotterdam

Sir Chris Hoy extended his lead in the Six Days of Rotterdam meeting in the Netherlands after a solid effort in
yesterday’s fourth session.

The Edinburgh man, who had moved into first place on Saturday, linked up with Dutchman Teun Mulder to take the
honours in the team sprint. He then posted the second quickest time in the 200 metres time trial behind Englishman Jason Kenny, who got the better of Hoy in the individual sprint.

And, although he was beaten by Frenchman Gregory Bauge in the Keirin, Hoy’s points
haul left him clear of Kenny
at the top of the leaderboard with two days of racing left. Meanwhile, City of Edinburgh rider Callum Skinner was pipped by Frenchman Francois Pervis in the final of the Revolution Sprint in Manchester.

The 20-year-old confirmed he has now recovered fully from the broken collarbone he sustained at the Thunderdrome event in Glasgow last October when he posted the third quickest time in qualifying, beaten only by Pervis and Germany’s former world champion Robert Förstemann.

Skinner saw off Olympic team sprint gold medallist Philip Hindes in the first round then took the scalp of Förstemann in the semi-finals, before losing to Pervis.
