Cycling: Hoy goes Down Under on road to Glasgow

Sir Chris Hoy has arrived in Australia to start the block of training that will define the next step in his career.

The 36-year-old Capital star has used a spell Down Under as a vital part of his build-up to the track cycling season for many years. He flew out later than the rest of the Great Britain squad because of post-Olympic commitments, but has now linked up with his colleagues for a month-long stint in Perth.

The progress he makes over there will be of even greater importance on this occasion than it has been in the past, as Hoy seeks to establish whether he is capable of securing a place in the Scotland squad for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

He already has his first racing date of 2013 pencilled in, with an outing at the Six Days of Rotterdam meeting next month.

Hoy expects his progress in Australia and the outcome of the racing in the Netherlands to be factors in enabling him to make a decision on his future.
