Cycling: Haston and Croall win at Meadowbank

A mild and dry night ensured last night’s round of racing in the Meadowbank National Track League was the first to beat the weather for three weeks. City of Edinburgh cyclists
Bruce Croall and Louise
Haston took full advantage of the favourable conditions to extend their lead at the top of the men’s and women’s league tables.

Croall took top spot in the
15- lap scratch and Keirin where he edged out Gus Gillies (Bicycleworks), who had taken the honours in the handicap event.

However, Croall suffered a surprise defeat in the
25-lap scratch event when he was pipped on the line after a late charge by his team mate
Callum Watson.

Haston also chalked up a double with wins in the six-lap scratch and individual pursuit where she was pushed hard by youngster Lulu Bartlett (Edinburgh RC).

Overseeing the evening’s events was local commissaire David Menzies whose next
assignment will be at the Olympic Games in London.

He will be among the officials when the road race takes place on Saturday, and will also be involved at the Olympic Park Velodrome next week.
