Cycling: Endura still chasing win

ENDURA Racing Team had another fruitful outing in the fourth race of the Halfords Tour Series but a first win continues to elude the West Lothian cycling outfit.

After dominating Tuesday's race in Portsmouth before losing out in the home straight, Endura riders again spent much of the latest race in Exeter dictating the pace.

Edinburgh rider James McCallum took the honours in the first intermediate sprint before going to work for his colleagues.

He and Rob Hayles set up Ian Wilkinson and Jack Bauer but they were pipped in the closing sprint and had to settle for third and fourth place behind Rapha Condor pair Dean Downing and Zak Dempster.

McCallum will have a break this weekend but there is no respite for his team-mates including Wilkinson and Evan Oliphant, who will be back in the saddle on Sunday for the Ryedale Grand Prix in Yorkshire.

Oliphant will go to the start of the 112-mile event seeking a repeat of the win he recorded in 2006.

Meanwhile, Kate Cullen will also return to competitive action tomorrow at the Therme Kasseienomloop criterium in the Netherlands. She will be seeking a top-eight finish to secure world ranking points.
