Cycling: Chris Hoy has to settle for silver

Sir Chris Hoy was beaten into second place in the keirin at the Track World Cup event in Astana, Kazakhstan yesterday.

The four-times Olympic champion, who last month withdrew from the European Championships through illness, came second to Christos Volikakis of Greece in his favourite event. Fellow Briton Jason Kenny failed to qualify for the final.

European champion Ed Clancy missed out on a medal in the men’s omnium, finishing fourth in the six-discipline event behind Germany’s Roger Kluge. Dani King was lying fourth overnight in the corresponding women’s event, which concludes with three events today.
