Cycling: Capital riders in hunt for Derwent success

Lothians’ James McCallum aims to build on his outstanding effort in last weekend’s Cicle Classic when he lines up in Sunday’s Tour of the Reservoir in Northumberland, the latest round of the British Cycling Premier Calendar Series.

The 33-year-old, who took third place in the East Midlands, features in a strong Rapha Condor-Sharp squad for the 100-mile event which comprises eight laps of a loop around Derwent Reservoir.

Also looking to make a mark will be Capital rider Evan Oliphant (Team Raleigh), who has performed well in the event over recent years, including an 11th place finish last year and tenth the previous season.

Meanwhile, Livingston-based team Endura Racing will be without several key men who are competing in Spain, but still have the strength in depth to field a powerful eight-man line-up, led by Jonny McEvoy, who won last month’s Tour Doon Hame and is the current series leader.

Endura’s Alex Blain, winner of Sunday’s Cicle Classic, leads the contingent that will contest the two-day Vuelta a la Comunidad de Madrid.
